Friday Fishing Report Montana’s Missouri River from Headhunters FLy Shop in Craig!

Water Flows are holding at 3000 cfs. Water Temps are hovering around 36F. All quite normal for this period of year.

Nymphing very good. Fish quite active int eh deeper darker pools. Some reports claim fishing is good in shallower waters. Sure. But we will remind you that the percentages lean toward the larger deeper and darker buckets. There are some fish in the skinny waters, but if you were a trout fish investor, you would look the other direction. And fish the waters with higher percentages. That is for nymph anglers. Smart investors follow the path of greater success.

Dry fly opportunities exist. More daily as the spring season nears. Midge centric fly selections.

Streamer stirppers liking the direction we are headed. Again, look for the higher percentage runs and locations. Think about the water temps at 36F. Think about metabolism and activity levels at the current water temperatures.

The Tap House open the next three evenings. Pizza and burgers at 4pm. Izaak’s opening in mid March for the season. Lazy I in Wolf Creek, no word yet on the ‘26 opening. Missouri River Bar and Grill @ Prewitt Creek open noon on weekends, 4pm weekdays, Closed Monday.
