Missouri River Montana Monday Fishing Report 8.24.20

August. Our slowest two weeks of the summer season. Thanks last two of August.

And we like it.

The river is in tough shape as it moves through the mechanisms of warm weather, daytime highs, lower water levels, and weeds. As September arrives and passes so do the weeds, the temps drop, and the fishing improves.

But it is August and we are here. And fishing.

Water temps 66F. Average for the time.

Water levels at historical norms. Mid 4K’s.

Weeds in the water column? Yes. Normal. A 5.5 on a scale of 1-10. More down river, less up river.

The dam fishing well. Size 18 Zebra’s, Green Machines, JuJU Baeits, Little Black Mo, and the like. Small and dark.

Hoppers all day long. Thunder Thighs, More or Less, Morrish, Stalcup’s. Pink, Flesh, Purple, Yellow.

The entire river is being fished. Some on the upper, some on the lower, some in the canyon.

Quiet during the week out there. Enjoyable. Saturday is the big day. A holiday forthcoming. Labor Day. A big sale coming I the tent outside of Headhunters. Will let you know the specifics later this week! Hint: It will include a big fly sale…

September around the corner. Historically one of the better nymphing months. Not too good for the dry fly. A good time over on the Blackfoot though. Think about that one and book a trip to the westside during your Mo River stay.
