Mid month, turning the corner, and remembering
Boy howdy, we are nearly mid month and we love it. The dog days of summer are behind us. The great days of autumn and fall ahead of us. We here in Craig Montana like the looks of that. Yep, good stuff. Good days ahead. Good cooler weather. Good signs from the river. A good time to be outdoors.
The weeds still an issue, if you are not a fan. If you fish here often this period, after summer, then you are aware. If you do not like the weeds of the Mo in the late summer and autumn session that is OK. We don’t hold it against you. Buck up little camper. Use that rod to do good things.
The weather is changing this week. Morphing from unseasonably warm, to a very normal unsettled Rocky Mountain front weather behaviors. Looking at rain and air temps dipping below 70F for the next ten days. Overcast skies will help the burned out flaming eyes of those trout. You and I the angler too.
Streamer anglers unite. Toss and strip. Water temps dictate you still move it pretty quickly. Use sink tips to get below the subsurface confusion, Water levels are 4120cfs. Water temps 62F. Come by for the best in Streamer Selections. Stocked and ready for the third season on the Mo.
Nymphers will get back to bugs, insects on the ends of the line. The Crayfish will go away for the year. Many still fishing it with success, but many others will take its place as we move through this month ahead. The latest and hottest flies on the river available at HH of Craig. Best Flies under the Big Sky!
The dam region coming back. For a while, only a few long term tenured dam rowers those who have sold their soul to the bobber were hooking up with regularity. Those outcomes changing as the summer slips away. Thankfully.
The canyon has been good and the traffic in that reach proves it. Soon the lower reaches will be frequented as the baby BWO, and eventually (weeks away) the big BWO will keep us thinking as the days get shorter.
We always remember and reference the American story. Today in history is one of those days. Thinking of those who perished on this solemn September day.
We hope you are well. Take care of yourself as you take care of others. Gotta do both.

I do feel for those souls hooked on the bobber gig ….. . And praise to the mighty Missouri and to her beauties that feast on the surface buffet – not too many rivers left like the Mo! How can one NOT want to dry fly fish this river?? This one continues to rattle my cage.
