Craig Montana January 2nd 2025

Currently 8F in downtown Craig Montana. High of 14F today. Snowing. Calm.

Quiet.

Only thing happening is the phone ringing.

What? Yeah, booking 2025 guide trips, lodging, and otherwise.

Questions too. Lot so of ’em. Answers? We have the answers.

Plan your trip with your buddies, associates, and family for the peak seasons very soon. Waiting will not produce more trout, more opportunities at lodging and specific guide requests. No, water under the bridge. May, June, July, October book first. Check out CraigLodging.com for the properties HH of Craig represents.

Last year the fishing damn good through July. Autumn and fall fishing not quite as strong. August and September performed fall below historical averages and catch rates. Previous to that? Very, very good. Far above norms in the dry fly arena. 5K-6K flows for the spring BWO, March Brown, Midge, PMD and early Trico sessions were superb.

Current stats on the river include flows at 3600cfs and rising due to extremely cold temps for the next week at least. Water temps at 37F. Fish rising in soft spots without wind along with the advent of clouds overhead. Small tiny clusters of the midge variety, a small para dry fly. Nymphers have gone pink. Deep too. Swingers enjoying the best results of the latte fall early winter in the past month. Skagit with some heavier tips. Strippers slow and easy.

Call if you need a that multi question conversation with a Sara, Derek, or Conor as we have the time to answer all of your 2025 questions and riddles.

Happy New Year wishing all of you the best in the year ahead.

Practice casting this year. Try it. It’s good man.
