Friday Fishing Report Mid August & Rodeo Tonight in Cascade

Montana Closed or Hoot Owl Restricted Waters

Does not include the Missouri River. Current water temps 63F.

Weed levels about a 5. Nothin’ to us locals. But some dislike it. My common annual answer is if you don’t like it, head over to the Madison.

Cascade Pro Rodeo tonight Friday the 9th at 7pm and tomorrow night Saturday the 10th at 7pm. Located at Chestnut Valley Arena. Festivities all day long on Saturday beginning in town int he morning. . Friday nite Mutton Austin with the kids riding sheep bareback @ 630pm. Food and fun all night long. Street Dance tonight at 9pm in downtown Cascade. See website for more and all info available.

Fishing pretty good as we enjoy the cooler daytime and nighttime air temp[s. The smoke is still with us and changes volume day to day. Today, Friday, Visibility better than 10 miles. Low on the scale of smokiness. Dry fly and nymphing anglers still riding g4he morning session to be the most consistent catch rate. Cooler nights mean longer fishing days.  Good for the weekend ahead with a bit warmer temps introduced front end of nest week.

August is a month which can ring the best and the worst of the Missouri River here in Craig Montana. Kind of a crap shoot. So far, a decent month, but nothing to write home about. In the middle is what most believe. But, the caller rather as aforementioned will aid our late summer woes for the time being.

Trico fishing where you find them. Upper river for sure. Some days more than others. Some days not too many at all. Scarce is a word/definition aI heard around Craig recently.

Zirdles up and down the river for many. Tie on a mayfly dropper or a Zebra, or another Zirdle. Buggers, and the like will suffice in the big meal variety of angling. We got the Zirdles.

Shop open daily for you the angler. This may be the final Saturday of non angling mayhem. But the cool temps may keep them at home cleaning the garage.

Call the shop for an up to date, up to the minute fishing report. Trout Hotline 406-235-3447. ext 2
