Headhunters Fly Shop Late August Blackfoot River Fishing Report
Pretty good out there yesterday. Sunny, smoky, and fishy.
Fished with friends from Hawaii for their first trip to the Blackfoot River over the divide. An awesome experience.
Put in at Harry Morgan and floated to Scotty Brown Bridge. Pretty skinny up top in the North Fork of the Blackfoot. But passable, and had a few nibbles in the morning session before meeting the Blackfoot proper at River Junction.
Hoppers were the theme of the day. Not many bugs out and about this time of year on the Blackfoot. Did see some Trico’s around 10 am and it was short lived. The Spruce Moth is in the books for another year although you could round up a couple fish on them if you needed to .
Light pressure for sure over there. Saw 3 other boats all day long including one of our favorite westside and seasonal Missouri River guides Kurt McChesney! Always nice to chat with Kurt and see his smile.
If you are headed over this way from anywheres in the US of A you should give the Blackfoot River a shot. Damn pretty with some decent fishing. Cutthroats, Bows, and Browns. Big dry flies you can se. It fishes well through the month of September. It shuts down when the waters get too cold. A mid-day show so early starts not e eastside here with an hour-fifteen commute over the continental divide to lots of green trees and the famous Blackfoot. We’d love to share this wonderful freestone fishery if you so desire.
A few of the Headhunters guides can show you the way. Inquire about Trout Spey trips with Whitney and John. A much different way to fish the Blackfoot that you may just love!
All is well here on the Mighty Mo today. Cooler this morning with temps in the low 60’s. I think it’s gonna get hot for the remainder of the week and into the Labor Day Weekend. Get that bikini out for the last hurrah of summer!
Big Labor Day Weekend Sale approaching with 50% OFF ALL FLIES! And, of course, much, much more…BBQ too!
