Missouri River Montana Fishing Report

Missouri River Montana Fishing Report 2.3.14

Congrats Seahawks. With the Seahawks win, in honor of the 12th Man…retail 12% off this week thru Saturday. Not valid on guide trips, lodging, and not valid on all retail items…but most!

Snow all of last week with this week more winter. And damn cold.

Whether you are still celebrating the win of your team yesterday or mourning the loss…we are here in Crag moving forward.

But it will be cold. Cold today and getting colder. A good time to spend some time inside your garage, your tying room, looking at your calendar for the upcoming summer planning the Salmonfly, the baetis, the PMD’s and the ubiquitous caddis hatches.

Where do you wan to be?

Here we will be and here we are daily anchoring your favorite river with the information, fishing reports, humor, and hatch tracking that you have come to love.

Headhunters Fly Shop & Guide Service is the Missouri River information and education source!

Missouri River Montana Fishing Report

Bobbers in conjunction with cold water temperatures have our trout in slow deep winter lies. Buckets, tanky slow ass tail-outs, soft insides. You’ll know where the trout are. Just look for an acre or two of shelf ice and you have arrived.

Normal winter fare for flies. Get some lead on it too. Rig the bobber you like and stare at it. You could streamer fish too if your arm gets sore…from catching fat and silly rainbows.

Not many browns showing. They are in the river somewhere. Winter really is for rainbows. They gain weight while the browns thin. Reverso in the summer. Although last summer I believe we saw an increase in rainbow size. That historically does not happen. According to this blogger. Corroborated  by many long time Missouri River resent anglers the girth seen and felt was truly amazing.

Let’s see what this spring brings us as we head on into February. Traditionally the midges begin to show in numbers that trout get excited about in the middle of the month. Some colder years, it happens toward the end of the month or even March. I can hope they come early, but Mother Nature is pretty predictable. She does not fall out of her game plan often.

Saturday brings us to at the sold out Spey Casting Clinic. A few more slots for the March 8th final Freed Spey Casting Clinic here on the Mo. The weather looks like it will be just fine for learning. We like the looks of Saturday.

You must have seen our Spring Special by now. $300 Guide Trips March 15th-April 30th. Discounted lodging too…this could be your year to come out the Missouri River twice. 2X better than once. Call for more info about this special. It is wildly popular.

No harm no foul cancellation policy. If you are standing on the porch the morning of your trip, and it feels shitty…no harm no foul you can go have a long breakfast and a take a much needed nap. The unpredictable Montana spring weather can make us weak in the knees too. Cancel on the Headhunters porch, get your money back. Lodging too. The only way to offer this special is to be flexible.

Get your self into a spot to win Free Guided Trips with Headhunters Guide Ben Hardy and lodging at Craig Trout Camp just by donating to Cancer Research! Check it out here…

Did you like the Super Bowl yesterday? Come in and tell us about it. We got time…open daily @8am for any trout fishing needs. We got at least 2 in the store daily for your phone needs too. We’re here full time because we care about your Missouri River fly fishing experience all year long.
