Nymphers loving the lower water levels and getting them on Tailwater Sow, Pill Popper, Firebead Rays, Bubble Yum, Rainbow Weight Fly, Tungsten Jig Brush Hog, Tungsten Jig Firebead, Little Green Machine, Two Bit Hookers, Radiation Baetis, S & M BWO, Tungsten Zebra Purple, Zebra Black or Red or Green, Frenchie, Magic Fly BWO, Micro-May, March Madness, Peep Show, a plethora of Euro sinky BWO and Midge patterns, Lightening Bug etc…
Streamer and Swingers hit and miss the past week. Some days, some runs, some patterns…but not a slam dunk. A strange bite happening with the fish moving around and a bit confused nearing the end of spawn season. Anglers, also a bit confused.
Weather? Spring time in the Rockies. Saturday wet, and cold, and breezy. Last week, some warm days and sunshine. Next week ahead? Cooler with rain and snow and highs in the mid 40’s. Later int he week may trend towards warmer weather. May, May brings Rocky Mountain weather here to our neighborhood.
Dry Fly Anglers loving the BWO emergence. Still loving the daily midge action. Midge can hatch all 24 hours. Not a time when they will come. BWO’s coming off in numbers at 4pm. You will see statements of 2pm. Fine, but not the peak. Peak is later in the day and after many are off the water. Smart dry fly anglers start late, finish late. Many anglers off the water at 4 or 5 pm. Want some solace? Finish and fish the late shift. Off at Mid C yesterday at 6pm, last car in lot. Guide traffic and most anglers fish Bankers Hours.
The dry fly fish have become smarter the past week. Now drift is the primary objective. And patter more important too. Cripples, BWO’s, fish dig them. Love an emerged too. Duns? Sometimes.
Fly Shop open early at 7am. Open late to 7pm.
