Fall is in full swing here on the Missouri River and the Missouri River Fishing Report reflects all the reasons we enjoy fall so much here in Central Montana. The trout capital of the world…
The weather is coming around too. The fish don’t mind the sunny skies, but we as anglers prefer that the sun be blocked totally out by a gray sheet of clouds. We have that forecast int he future…today, tomorrow, the next day.

Bugger Chuckers Unite
Anglers are happy with all disciplines and many are playing with all 3 in the same day. Streamer anglers are damn excited and fishing long days The night time, late afternoon, bite can be good when the sun is in play. With the overcast and moisture int he air this week, should be red hot all day long.
The Streamers that streamer junkies cannot live without? Coffey’s of course, Skiddish, Black Bugger Jigs, White Urchins, Yellow Yummy’s, Coffey’s Purple…yep we got ’em, Micro Zonkers, Foxy Clousers, Clousers of the Marabou variety…yep, we got ’em, and some articulated stuff from Galloup.
Sink tip or dry line? Check this out from Scumliner as he outlines fly lines for Fall.
Bobber Chasers
Well, just lights out is the report. While it fishes all year round here on the Missouri, the nymphers are coming in with happy faces. Those who are really good, the anglers, are really killing it. Yep, killin’ it yo! Stop in for a short bobber tutorial and head on out.
Flies? You know. Really, you do.
Hint: I’d try a PT. Just sayin’
Dry Fly Fanatics
Teetering on the brink of greatness. We have had some glimpses, more like a few great sessions, of brilliance…but more frequent hatches, bigger bugs, and the meat of the month lays ahead of us. Maybe today? Maybe tomorrow? THe water temps are right for the explosion. Truth spoken here on the Missouri River information source.
A forecast that we look for would be something like this. Any October Day: A 20 percent chance of showers. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 48. That makes me just jiggle with excitement.
Dry flies that rule include the Cripple Family, the Emerger Family, and, and…and some slick water low ridin’ baetis love bug. An Adams comes to mind.
Those who fish with the dry have been coming in with two kinds of reports. 1. Wow, could not budge one. I don’t know what they were eating? 2. Holy shit. I thought you said we would not hook many. Tat they were difficult? We hooked some really nice fish out there!
