Thursday Fishing Report Mighty Mo 7.18.24

Nymphers headed into the Zirdle Bug era. 6 weeks of big fly up top, little fly on bottom. Weeds in the water column are developing. The warmth of the summer is here. We may not have a Hoot Owl period, but we always have a weed in the water column period. And, it is happening now.

Water temperatures are 64F. Voluntary Hoot Owl 2pm off the water for many/most.

Water Flows 4K.

Trico’s daily. Spinner fall 930. Many on the water earlier, but the mania begins at 930. Not 8am. Most bugs are down the river or have become one with the river, sunk, at noon or 1pm. Some days later.

PMD spinner falls daily, locally. PMD duns coming of sporadically during the day. Some quite large at 14 or thereabouts. Rusty Spinner rule. Even the later 14 and 16’s. Honest.

Buzzballs? Yes. Cluster Midge patterns that emulate the Trico spinner clump? You bet. Griffith’s Gnats? Yessir.

Spent Caddis. Caddis in sizes 12-20 out there. Best Caddis year in 15, or better. Fish like the caddis fly.

Spruce Moths out there. Headhunters has patterns you will love. Including the Spruce Moth.
