April Water Update & Fish counts
Looking good for the water update and projection this coming year. Attended the Annual Missouri RIver Advisory Group meeting in Helena Monday afternoon. About 40 in attendance, a good turnout, for this dual meeting outlining the water projections for 2025, fish count updates, NW Energy updates about dams and ongoing maintenance, as well as nutrient and insect sampling conversations.
About average for our trout numbers. 3500 catchable rainbows per mile in the Wolf Creek to Craig reach with brown trout numbers about average at 700-800 per mile all 10” or better. The historic highs of the last couple years based on the high recruitment years of ‘18 and ‘19 are gone. A normal number, the historic averages post 1983 have returned.
