Headhunters Fly Shop Missouri River Fishing Report 5.19.22

• All good here on the Mighty Mo. Cori with the Brown Trout today. Shot by John, hubby, who fishes all the time! And skis, and recreates…good for both of you, enjoying the good life!
• Flows below 3K
• Water temps 46F-50F
• Anglers spread out up and down the river.
• Weather this weekend include ran and snow and wind for Friday. The weekend will bring 50’s and not too much breeze under 10mph.
• Nymphers like PT derivations, all kinds of those Perdigon and Euro style nymphs in stock, March Brown nymphs like the Brush Hog, T-HEAD PT, Miracle Nymph with a CDC Soft Hackle, Frenchie, S & M, LGM, Pill Popper, Tailwater Sow, Gut Sack Sow, Softie Sow, Beaded Tailwater sow, Firebead Ray, Caviar Scud and the like. 4-6′ with or without split. How about weighted in the am, not weighted in the pm.
• Dry fly anglers looking in the afternoons. If you do see a couple MB’s, tie on a dun. IF that does not work try a cripple. Cripple BWO’s are the key. Trapped duns for the BWO as well. Might have together tech on them as the fish are aware of imposters! Great drifts catch fish. I’d stay int he middle regions oof the river if you are looking for the bigger bug, mayfly bug.
• PMD’s are the next big thing. Also caddis not he horizon. The nymphers should be aware of both under the surface and should be fooling around with additional mayfly and caddis subsurface nymphal patterns soon, if not today. Nymphs precede the dry fly by a year in most cases. They liver under the water man.
• Strippers using flashy, and drab. Intermediate tips, dry lines, and some are dredging a bit deeper. Water temps are nearing the perfect range for feeding trout and you can take that into consideration when pulling your flies through the water. Warmer water temps get those trout all wound up!  had good looks on the Flesh Eating Sculpin in all three colors yesterday, Rusty Trombone, Goldie, Black or Olive Fruit Roll-Up and Blue Tailed Bugger/Beth’s Britches, Dali Llama…come and see our soft hackle and leech selections that will make the single and double handers smile.
• Shop open daily. Goods from Skwala, SIMMS, Howler Bros, Orvis, NRS, and lots of HH Logo’d T’s and hats in stock today. Buff’s, sungloves, sunscreen from SUnBum, and cool sunglasses to protect you from the sun in stock and ready.
• Izaak’s open at 4pm for the best in BBQ, cool handcrafted cocktails by Scotty, the House Marg is awesome! Local Micro’s on tap, Smoked Chicken Wings to die for and look at the daily Fresh Sheet for the goods!
• Montana Red’s Burgers Truck everyday but Wednesday at 4-7pm on Leonard Street.
• Shotgun Annies and the Missouri River Inn for American Fare, bar food, etc nightly.
